Reflections of AED 200

1.) What were you expectations for this course and where they met?
I think my expectations for this course were met. I actually really enjoyed this course. It made me realize more that I like art more than I thought. It made me see that art is used more than I use to think. It definitely helped me become more interested in art, although I am not very good at creating art myself. I expected this course to teach me different things about art and it did that. I also expected it to bore me because art was never really something I was very interested. After spending a semester in an art class, it makes me want to take more classes in art. Even though this was just an elective course, I found it to be enjoyable.
2.) Now that you've been through this course, What is art? How would you define it now compared to your intial posting?
I think art is almost everything. To some, looking at a certain statue may not be art, but to others it may be art. I learned that art could be all sorts of things, not just drawings and paintings. Art is open-minded and involves things in our daily lives. Art involves many different ideas and takes very talented people to create some of the art that we see. Using certain art materials such as charcoal I found to be very difficult, but to some people this is a natural thing.
3.) Who was your favorite artist in your original posting and who is your favorite visual artist now? If there is a difference, why do you think so? If you have the same favorite artist, why do you think so?
My favorite artist in my original posting was Thomas Kinkade and he is still my favorite artist. I like his paintings so much because they involve so much detail. Also, I am in love with Disney, which is what a lot of his paintings are based off of. I like how he makes the characters look so real and when he creates paintings of the ocean, he makes the sun reflect on them, which makes it even more life like. My favorite thing he does is hide other Disney characters in his paintings. For example, his painting of Ariel looking towards the castle, Cinderella is hidden in the castle very small. It takes a good eye to see this. I never noticed this because until I got one of his puzzles. Then I continued to get the Disney puzzles and saw that there was a small Disney character in each painting. I find it fascinating that he does this.

4.) Now that you've completed this course, how do you feel about taking an online course? Is your answer the same as it was in your first posting? How is it the same or different?
I still enjoy online classes more. I was a full time online student balancing working at Disney as well and I loved having online classes. I didn’t have to take time out of my day to go to class weekly. I knew when my assignments were due and paid attention to when I had free time to do them. I liked that I could go at my own pace and I didn’t have to sit in a classroom everyday. If I could finish my degree online, I would. Many students don’t like online courses because they aren’t self-disciplined enough to actually do the work, but I feel more motivated to do my schoolwork taking online classes. This semester was much easier for me than my previous semesters. I have been in 6 classes, so taking 4 online was much easier for me, even though I had long hours of working here at Disney.
